Little hairy baby things.

So what on earth are you looking at here?

Can you tell?

When I was looking at it all I could think about was baby pandas that I had seen on TV.

I think it's the spiky little hairs.

Did you get it yet? It's an african violet bud.

Bugs in October in Hamburg.

Bugs drive me crazy...

I love dragonflies. Here is one that we saw at the park last week. I think it's a lady one cos it's not very pretty (does it work the same as birds? Should check that...)

...Crazy? I was crazy once...
...They locked me in a room with patterned walls, I died there. They buried me with bugs...

This guy is rather nice too. Although I do prefer the green ones! The parks in Hamburg are rather lovely and inspire me to actually learn the names of all the trees.

Craft craziness.

Just in case there is not enough craftiness going on in my life, I've found a universal craft blog directory. Yep.

Click on the image on the right of this page to find out more and pass on the love...

Style Diary.

Just another image that I pinched off someone's blog somewhere on the internet some months ago. (I've been digging around. I couldn't find the blog, but with the help of tineye found the original image here) I was looking for inspiration for a capsule wardrobe that was needed for 6 weeks in London.

I really like the combination and the something 70's about it, yet super modern too.

Anyway, if this is from your fashion blog tell me and I'll gladly link to you. Boy, I do need to keep track of where I take these images from...

Hats!

I have had these images on my desktop for a very long time. Are they not fabulous? I wish I knew who to credit for these creations (please contact me if you know and I'll happily add links...)

Now I have a history of making lampshades and I must say that the wire hat is rather like my attempts at light-fittings. I wonder if I could turn my hand to something more hat-shaped in future.

I love the green hat, it makes me think of mini-aeroplanes shooting off into the sky in an air display.

Mmmm... I'm going to look for images of my lampshades, maybe need to put one next to that hat above.

Scherenschnitte.

Rob Ryan cuts paper and makes art about love. It reminded me very strongly of the Swiss paper-cutting art of Scherenschnitte. I suppose it's basically the same thing. Very nice to see old methods prevailing today.

Diane von Furstenburg.

To be read...
This woman is as well known as Vivian Westwood yet the only knowledge I have of her designs is that famous wrap dress, the one from the 70's that never really went away.

17/10/11
Ok, now I've had time to read the article I can report that that while I can't condone the lifestyle that inspired this dress, I am in favour of designing that is tailored to suit individuals and fit the way they live. This seems lacking in today's off the peg, nothing really fits properly, throw it away tomorrow and buy something else fashion scene.

Oh and this is a fabulous quote from Diane von Furstenburg: "Women design clothes for women to wear. Men design costumes."

Baby blanket.

So, I've just finished knitting a baby blanket for my friend's new little one that is due soon. Details are on Ravelry.

Hope they'll love it. I do, I wanna keep it! :)

Orchid love.

So, every time I get a new orchid I go nuts taking photos.

It's the shadows that do it for me. I know that photos are much better in natural light, but surely the electric hue is worth it to get a permanent record of this?

I want to paint the shadow onto the wall so I can enjoy it all the time. ha.

On a slightly unrelated note, I've decided that I have to carry my camera with me everywhere.

Yesterday I saw:
-a hedgehog
-a dragonfly
-a particularly lovely fluffy cloud

I enjoyed the moment, but somehow I feel a need to capture them and take them home!

Missed opportunities.

Chilli chilli.

Food Friday

I've fallen in love with a jar of chilli.

Adorable no?

Yes, maybe I'm crazy. But HOT chillies are far and few between up north in Germany. It's taken me nearly a year to find these babies. (I do admit that I hadn't looked much further than Lidl and Rewe, thanks to Mimi for recommending Andronaco).

Actually Andronaco deserves a link.

You do need to read in either German or Italian to get the details, but maybe you can work out where to find them without specialist language knowledge.

Yummy.

It's curious how chilli when talking about food means hot, yet when you speak about the weather chilly means rather cold... Hmmm. Language.

William Morris and inspiration...

This blog is basically going to be a place for me to list and share the things I find, online and off, that should be treasured.

It's intended for me first, as I keep finding things that I would like to think about more, and then losing them in the day to day. I hope keeping them in one place will be a source of inspiration. The title of the blog is a William Morris quote and I think another word from William is appropriate here:

"The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life."

I believe this is certainly one of the keys to happiness. I would love to hear from anyone who would like to join me in noticing details. Please share.

Oh and I'm a left-handed crafter, so if anything interesting gets thrown up because of that I'll document it!
